Today’s post is MAC Folie and Carbon Eyeshadows Review,Swatches,FOTD
I was really excited when I customized my own very first MAC Eyeshadow Palette for the first time while Me and my sister were shopping for her trousseau. I was a beginner with MAC back then and seriously went by the suggestions of MAC SA for designing my own palette. I have this palette from quite sometime now and in this span of time- two of the eyeshadows from my palette – MAC Kid Eyeshadow which is lovely soft almost neutral matte brown eyeshadow and Crystal Avalanche which is gorgeous white eyeshadow with pearlescent finish are discontinued. Although I have used all the four eyeshadows in the FOTD pictures, I will be primarily talking about MAC Folie and Carbon in this post which are MAC’s permanent eyeshadow collection. Both these eyeshadows were launched as a part of MAC & Mickey Contractor Makeup Spring Collection in 2011 and Carbon has shown up repeatedly in many palettes all over these years. MAC Folie, Carbon Eyeshadows Review
Brand Claims:M·A·C Eyeshadow is a highly pigmented powder formula that applies evenly and blends well. Suitable for use either wet or dry, it’s available in a wide variety of textures and finishes.
MAC Eyeshadow – Folie is a matte cranberry-brown eyeshadow that I love to wear in multiple ways . It is a pretty shade for defining eye socket and outer V of the eyelid. I sometime wear it as the only lid color and soften the harsh edges with MAC Kid eyeshadow I got in the palette. I have a huge collection of brown, bronze and copper eyeshadows . I bought MAC Folie primarily to add more diversity to my collection of crease eyeshadows.
Folie is highly pigmented , considerably smooth & soft , easy to blend eyeshadow that apply evenly on my lids without looking patchy. It is not as soft compared to other satin finish eyeshadows I have from MAC but still reasonably smooth to touch . I find the finish is more of matte on my lids although it is marked as satin eyeshadow by the brand. It lasts roughly for 6-7 hours on my lids and wears crease proof & even without any primer underneath. On primer, it definitely wears richer and longer.
MAC Eyeshadow- Carbon is a sheer to medium pigmented, matte black eye shadow that is relatively dry & stiff in texture.Being a dark black eyeshadow, I expected it to be heavily pigmented but it turned out quite sheer rather patchy on swatching.I did not like it much in the beginning as it needs to be layered a lot to develop rich intense black color. But off late, I started using it for smokey looks where I just want dash of black color to add more definition to my eye makeup. It smokes up the lid color without overpowering it or dramatizing whole look. As you can see in swatches also, on its own it applies quite patchy and uneven. Given its dry chalky texture there were no major fall outs during application but requires extra effort to blend. Without primer, it lasts roughly for 7-8 hours on my lid with minimal fading or creasing.
VANILLA RATINGS 7/10
MAC Folie and Carbon eyeshadows are few of my buys as a makeup beginner. I was thrilled to have and use MAC eyeshadows back then. But now when I have tried eyeshadows from brands like Urban decay,Inglot and Makeup Geek , I feel that texture and finish of both these eyeshadows is not incredible. Folie is beautiful reddish plum brown color that suits almost all skin complexions and can be a good and different addition to brown – crease eyeshadows. As far as Carbon is concerned,It is not the blackest black eyeshadow. I am not a huge fan of its texture and blend ability also.It can be safely skipped unless you are not looking for semi sheer black eyeshadow to add hints of smoke to your main lid eyeshadow exclusively which is not difficult to achieve otherwise with intense black eyeshadows applied light handedly.
Have you tried any of these eyeshadows? How was your experience with them ? Do mention in comments below
